Platform Intelligence FAQ

Clear answers regarding our data methodology, sources, and analytical platform capabilities.

Platform & Mission

Q. What is the CrimeTrends Project?

CrimeTrends is an independent data-intelligence initiative providing granular UK crime statistics, safety modeling, and interactive spatial analysis. We aggregate millions of records to help individuals and institutions understand regional safety dynamics through objective data.

Q. How do I use the interactive map?

The Interactive Map allows you to visualize crime density across the UK. You can search by postcode or city to zoom into specific neighborhoods, view localized risk scores, and access deep-dive statistical reports for any area.

Data & Methodology

Q. Where does the data come from?

Our primary data source is the Police.uk API, supplemented by demographic data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). We normalize this information across all 43 police forces in England and Wales to provide a consistent analytical baseline.

Q. How often is the intelligence updated?

The platform synchronizes with official databases monthly. Due to the nature of police reporting cycles, there is typically a 4-8 week lag between an incident occurring and its inclusion in our statistical models.

Q. What is the Safety Risk Score?

Our proprietary algorithm calculates risk by weight-averaging incident frequency against population density (crimes per 1,000 residents). We then compare these results against national and regional averages to assign a percentile-based safety rating.

Privacy & Access

Q. Do I need an account to view data?

No. In line with our Data Sovereignty philosophy, all regional intelligence and map features are accessible without registration. We believe public safety data should be transparent and friction-less.

Q. Is the platform mobile-friendly?

Yes. The entire platform, including the interactive map, is optimized for high-performance use on smartphones and tablets, ensuring you can access intelligence while on the move.
