Shoplifting

Status Update

We are actively engaging with local businesses to support their efforts in tackling shoplifting and reducing retail crime.
Through regular communication and partnership working, we are helping businesses identify and manage individuals known for repeat offending.

The introduction of the DISC system has significantly enhanced this process, allowing businesses to share real-time information and intelligence with each other and with police.

This collaborative approach enables us to take preventative action, such as identifying offenders early and working with businesses to deter them from entering premises, while also supporting enforcement where necessary.

In cases involving persistent offenders, we are also seeking Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs) through the courts. These orders place specific restrictions on individuals, including banning them from entering certain shops or areas, helping to protect businesses and reduce repeat offending.

We remain committed to working alongside the business community to ensure a safer and more secure trading environment for all.
