Local Priorities

Antisocial Behaviour (ASB)

Issued: 21 Apr 2026

Status Update

The Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to carry out regular patrols, focusing on areas where reports of ASB have been made.

We work closely with partners to tackle this type of behaviour, identify those responsible, and manage persistent offenders and locations.

We also continue to carry out intervention work with local schools and youth groups through our dedicated Neighbourhood Youth Officers.

Antisocial Driving - e-scooters

Issued: 21 Apr 2026

Status Update

Patrols will continue to tackle illegal use of these e-scooters. Ongoing work to increase awareness around the illegal use continues.

In the first instance, we provide an educative approach on the legality of the use of e-scooters in Sussex.

Vulnerable road users, including pedal cyclists, are at heightened risk of serious injury or fatality in road collisions.

With cycling promoted as a sustainable mode of transport, Sussex Police prioritises both the safety of cyclists and the enforcement of responsible cycling behaviour.

It is not currently possible to get insurance for privately owned e-scooters. This means it’s illegal to use them on the road or in public spaces, such as parks, street pavements, and shopping centres.

If you use a privately-owned e-scooter in public, you risk the vehicle being seized under S.165 Road Traffic Act 1988 for having no insurance.

If you cause serious harm to another person whilst riding an e-scooter, the incident will be investigated in the same way it would if you were riding a motorcycle or driving a car.

Retail Crime

Issued: 21 Apr 2026

Status Update

The Neighbourhood Policing Team will target persistent offenders and engage with partners and local businesses to offer support, conduct preventative work where appropriate and patrol areas of concern.

Our PCSO's visit local retailers offering advice on how to report retail crime which includes shoplifting and abuse towards staff and customers.

Additionally, we support 'Shop Kind' campaigns throughout the year, raising public awareness on retail crime.
