Coastal ASB linked to the Metro system.

Issued: 3 Mar 2026

Status Update

Anti-social behaviour along the Whitley Bay coastline continues to rise during lighter evenings and warm weather. Multi-agency operations have identified groups travelling to the coast via the Metro as a key factor in pockets of disorder and youth-related ASB at coastal hotspots.
Partnership work through Operation Early Bird and Operation Coastwatch has reduced ASB year-on-year but residents and businesses remain concerned about gatherings, noise, and disorder around Metro stations and seafront locations.
Given the continuing community impact and the clear link between Metro travel and coastal ASB, this will remain a neighbourhood priority, with a focus on visible patrols, problem-solving with partners, and targeted youth engagement.
