Local Priorities

Rural acquisitive crime across Ryedale. This includes domestic and commercial burglary and the theft of quad bikes and agricultural machinery and equipment. we have also seen an increase in garage and shed burglaries in which high value cycle have been stolen

Issued: 25 Mar 2026

Status Update

We have focused many of our patrols at the northern reaches of our command with some suspects travelling into North Yorkshire from northern force areas.
Although we have seen a reduction in this area of acquisitive crime we have seen a rise (albeit in small numbers) of heating oil thefts in the last month or so. In some instances the thieves have utilised agricultural water style bowsers on the rear of trailers to transport the stolen oil.

Actioned: 5 May 2026

We are investigating offences involving green laneing and unauthorised vehicular incursion onto National Parks and heritage sites.

Issued: 25 Mar 2026

Patrols are being conducted of areas in Ryedale and Whitby in relation to s tackling off-road motorcyclists and 4x4 users who are damaging established paths and trails and risking damaging habitats of ground nesting birds. there have been instances of significant damage caused to National Park property by motor vehicles also
We have seen a continuation of this anti-social vehicle use and a specific Police operation will starting shortly
