Local Priorities

Drug‑Related ASB and Violence

Issued: 20 Apr 2026

Status Update

Anti-social behaviour and drug-related activity continue to be key drivers of community concern within Whitechapel and remain a priority for local policing. These issues negatively impact residents’ quality of life and contribute to wider criminality and fear of crime.
Local policing teams will adopt an intelligence-led approach, delivering regular high-visibility uniformed reassurance patrols alongside targeted plain-clothes operations. Activity will be focused on identified hotspots and prolific offenders to disrupt offending and provide reassurance to residents and businesses.
Patrol strategies will include weapons sweeps and proactive enforcement to reduce gang-related violence, tackle drug use and supply, and improve public safety. This work will be supported by strong partnership engagement with the local authority, housing providers, and relevant agencies to address environmental issues, improve safeguarding, and deter repeat offending.
To support frontline activity, PCSOs will actively encourage community engagement and the uptake of Met Engage, ensuring residents have access to timely information and opportunities to provide intelligence. Community feedback and shared information will continue to shape policing activity and ensure resources are directed where they are most needed.

Business Crime

Issued: 20 Apr 2026

Status Update

Reducing theft and related offences impacting local businesses remains a key priority for the ward. These crimes affect business confidence, disrupt trading, and contribute to wider community harm.
The policing team will deliver an intelligence‑led response, combining regular high‑visibility patrols with targeted plain‑clothes activity. Focus will be placed on identified commercial hotspots, repeat victim locations, and prolific offenders to prevent offences and improve detection.
Dedicated operation and action weeks (Op Sound Jump) will continue to be used to concentrate resources on business crime, providing enhanced patrol coverage and proactive enforcement during periods of increased risk (Op Sceptre).
Strong partnership working with local businesses and trader groups, including the Safer Business Network, will remain central to this approach. This engagement supports improved crime reporting, sharing of intelligence, and the development of effective security and prevention measures.
PCSOs will support frontline activity by maintaining regular contact with businesses and promoting engagement through Met Engage, ensuring timely information sharing and increased reassurance for the local business community.

Residential Burglary & theft

Issued: 20 Apr 2026

Status Update

The local policing team will deploy a problem‑solving and intelligence‑driven approach, combining visible uniformed patrols with targeted plain‑clothes activity. Resources will be directed towards identified crime hotspots, repeat locations, and known offenders to prevent offences and disrupt criminal activity.
Officers will continue to adapt duty patterns and patrol times to match peak offending periods, ensuring a responsive and flexible approach that maximises prevention and detection opportunities.
