Local Priorities

Bury St Edmunds Town Centre has persistently been subject to high levels of alcohol related anti-social behaviour. The impact of this being felt by both the public, partners and local business owners. Whilst over the last two years significant work and success has been identified this still remains a local priority.

Over thirty Community Protection Notices and Warning Letters have been issued and the subsequent enforcement of over 100 arrests.
Enforcement of the Public Space Protection Order.
Five Anti-Social Behaviour Injunctions Obtained.
A Multi Agency working group looking at the causes and what diversion can be put in place.

A spike is reported retail crime, both locally and nationally continues to feature. This is both in our urban and rural areas of Bury St Edmunds.

Status Update

Police will be engaging and supporting businesses in Bury St Edmunds to identify repeat offenders, provide crime prevention advice, and take appropriate action. The Community Team continue to work with the Business Improvement District, utilising the platform of Shop Safe to support targeted activity. The Community Team have been successful in obtaining two Criminal Behaviour Orders to tackle the most persistent offenders. An adult male has recently been convicted as a result of a breach of a Criminal Behaviour Order, where he has entered a retail premises he is prohibited from. This male will serve 18 weeks in prison.

Following a rise in reports of drug supply and reported violence offences predominantly within Bury St Edmunds Town Centre this has been adopted as a local priority.
