Local Priorities

Park and Skircoat Ward Areas

  • Drug Dealing and ASB vehicles in Hotspots

  • Speeding and road safety

Issued: 15 May 2026

Status Update

The Borough Council of Calderdale Public Spaces Protection Order (vehicle ASB) is effective until July 2028, and prohibits vehicle anti-social behaviour. Officers are utilising these powers and issuing fixed penalty notices to those found in breach of the order, a fine of £100.

Our NPT officers have been executing traffic operations, utilising the skills of our DVSA and Council partners to examine vehicles and deal appropriately with those who are not conforming to the correct standards. In addition, officers have been conducting speed checks in speeding hot spots, tackling the fatal 5 offences and continuing our Vision Zero with an aim to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries whilst increasing safe, healthy and equitable mobility for all.

Outcomes:

Proactive patrols on foot and in marked police vehicles continue, with the assistance of our Roads Policing units and Proactive Intercept Team, in a bid to target drug dealing hotspots. There has been continued focus around South Park, Christian Science Church and Love Lane.

Additionally, officers have been paying particular attention to Albert Promenade to support the local residents in maintaining a peaceful location as the lighter nights and summer months approach. Any anti-social use of vehicles in the location have and will be dealt with accordingly.

Halifax Town Centre, Boothtown, Siddal and Southowram Ward Areas

  • Reducing violent crime within the night time economy

  • Reducing drug misuse / anti-social-behaviour related hotspots

  • Reduce theft from shops

Issued: 15 May 2026

Status Update

Police Officers have been showing a visible presence in the town centre, engaging with the public, tackling street drinking and undertaking licensing checks. We have been working in Partnership with Community Safety Partnership, we aim to reduce violent crime and ASB in the town centre.

Officers have been paying particular attention to Halifax Bus Station by engaging with and taking positive action against youths acting in an anti-social manner to assist the Safer Travel Team. A number of ASB letters have been issued to those causing the issues and referrals have been made to our Early Action team for further positive engagement.

Town centre designated officers are continuing to work closely with retail premises, investigating and prosecuting those involved in theft offences. Under Op Retail guidelines, offenders have been prosecuted expeditiously and are awaiting their day in court.

With the support of the Courts, Criminal Behaviour Orders have been issued to a number of persistent offenders, the latest being for a prolific vagrancy offender.

Our aim is to continue to present the town centre in the best possible light for those who live, work and visit.

Illingworth & Mixenden, Ovenden and Pellon & Warley Ward Areas

  •   Crime Prevention & Anti-social behaviour involving vehicles

  •   Road safety

Issued: 15 May 2026

Status Update

The Neighbourhood Policing Teams and Neighbourhood Impact Team (#OpOrion) continue to focus their attention on the anti-social use of vehicles in the area and take a zero tolerance approach to any vehicles used in such a manner.

Through a proactive approach, conducting high-visibility and targeted patrols, positive action has and is being taken by way of addressing the Fatal 5 offences, reporting drivers for driving offences, seizing vehicles and arresting those involved in criminality.

We are continuing to work closely with the council in a bid to redesign several areas that have been highlighted as opportunities for antisocial off‑road bike users to evade police. By improving the layout and reducing the opportunities for bikes to cut through or evade officers, we’re aiming to create safer space for everyone in the local community.

We are utilising Operation Snap and the new Safer Roads Media Submissions portal to take action against the increasing number of submissions of footage in relation to driving offences that members of the public have witnessed.

There is an ongoing Trojan Bus operation where ASB-related damage has been caused to buses in Mixenden. Engagement work is ongoing in the community and road safety inputs have been delivered at Lee Mount School.
