Local Priorities

Speeding
Speeding has been identified as an issue in our rural villages. Community Speedwatch is running in some villages with others looking to set up schemes in their areas.
The Neighbourhood Team are happy to support this where available and contact details are given.
Roads Policing colleagues have been asked to provide support in the Clifton area based on recent evidence provided by the CSW volunteers.

Issued: 1 Apr 2026

Status Update

Between January, February and March, Fixed and Mobile Safety Cameras recorded over 900 traffic offences. All offences have been processed by the Fixed Penalty Unit.
The Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to work in partnership with Roads Policing colleagues on Operation Scalis, an initiative funded by the Motor Insurance Bureau. The operation primarily targets uninsured drivers, while also allowing officers to detect and deal with a wider range of road traffic offences. Our next joint day of action with Roads Policing is scheduled for November.
In addition to these planned operations, your local Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to carry out routine patrols and will take action against traffic offences as they are identified. The most common issues currently being encountered include the illegal use of e - scooters and mobile phone use whilst driving.
The team has also recently been equipped with a new speed camera, enabling us to carry out local speed enforcement activity on a weekly basis, where resources allow.
It should be noted that enforcing speeding offences requires the use of specially calibrated equipment to ensure accuracy. In appropriate circumstances, poor driving behaviour may also be addressed under the offence of driving without due care and attention.
Further updates will be provided following our next operation, including details of activity and outcomes.

Parking issues continue to be a concern across the area, with Bloxham identified as a repeat problem location. Local residents have raised ongoing concerns regarding illegal and anti - social parking, particularly during school drop - off and pick - up times.
Banbury NHPT PCSOs are tasked with conducting high - visibility patrols around schools during these peak periods, where shift demands allow. Patrols will cover both rural and urban school locations. PCSOs will engage with drivers, provide reassurance to residents, and issue Fixed Penalty Notices where offences are identified. Patrols are supported by Police Officers from the team as required.
Schools are encouraged to continue reinforcing parking messages to parents and carers. The team maintains strong links with local schools to ensure emerging issues are identified early and addressed promptly

Status Update

With the start of the new term, the Neighbourhood Policing Team will be carrying out targeted patrols across Banbury, with a focus on areas affected by poor parking. Enforcement action will be taken where necessary.
Bloxham Parish Council has advised that a pavement parking campaign is currently underway. In addition, white junction protection lines have been introduced at key locations to deter unsafe and inconsiderate parking near junctions. Requests for double yellow lines on Courtington Lane have been approved by Oxfordshire County Council, and implementation is now awaited.
This work is ongoing, and further updates will be provided over the coming months.

Theft / Burglaries across rural villages.

There has been an increase in theft from peoples properties and vehicles across our rural villages

Issued: 1 Apr 2026

Status Update

The Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to work closely with colleagues from the Priority Crime Team and Rural Crime Team to support ongoing investigations and identify potential suspects linked to rural and acquisitive crime.
Community engagement remains a key focus. Crime prevention events have been held in Hanwell, where officers provided residents with updates and practical advice. Property marking items, including key blockers, have been distributed to help deter offending and reduce opportunities for crime.
This work remains ongoing. Further engagement and updates will continue over the coming months as we move into the lighter evenings, with a continued focus on prevention, reassurance, and supporting affected communities.
