The Kidlington Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to focus on dangerous and obstructive parking, particularly during school run periods and commuter peaks.

In the last month of this priority, officers and PCSOs have maintained regular high visibility patrols in the identified hotspots. These patrols have included joint activity with Cherwell District Council’s Community Safety Team, supporting a coordinated approach to community safety and parking related concerns.

During recent patrols, several drivers have been spoken to regarding unsafe or inconsiderate parking. Engagement remains generally positive, with most motorists adjusting their behaviour once the impact on residents, pedestrians, and visibility is explained. Where appropriate, parking advice and “polite notices” have been issued to encourage safer and more considerate driving habits.

The team has also continued to engage with local businesses and schools to better understand parking pressures outside of the traditional peak times. This has helped build a clearer picture of when and where issues occur, enabling more targeted deployment. PCSO Jessica Platt is leading the longer term problem solving approach and is working with local schools to promote safer parking practices during drop off and pick up periods.

In addition, officers have focused attention on areas where suspicious vehicles have recently been reported, providing reassurance patrols and taking opportunities to deliver relevant crime prevention literature to residents who have expressed concerns.

The Priorities are now due for renewal and the Team will be holding HYS events around the area and advertising an Online Community priorities Survey. Over the past few months, officers from the Kidlington Neighbourhood Policing Team have continued to carry out regular high visibility patrols in the specific locations identified through recent community feedback.

As we now enter the final month of this community priority, our focus remains on deterring anti social behaviour, providing visible reassurance, and engaging directly with residents and businesses to understand emerging concerns.

All patrols for this period have now been completed, including joined up patrols with the Cherwell District Council Community Safety Team. This joint working strengthens our response, supports early problem solving, and ensures a coordinated approach between policing and partner agencies.
While the primary focus of this activity is ASB prevention, these patrols have also enabled officers to respond to wider community issues. During one such patrol, officers located and arrested an individual who was wanted for failing to appear at court. Although this was not directly linked to ASB, it demonstrates that community driven patrol activity is being used effectively and is delivering broader benefits for local safety.
Officers have continued speaking with residents and businesses, gathering intelligence on repeat problems, and working with partner agencies to address environmental or tenancy related drivers of ASB. Crime prevention advice and reassurance have been provided in areas where concerns have been raised.
