Local Priorities

Our recent Neighbourhood Policing Priorities Survey highlighted burglary as the primary concern for Chesham residents. In response, burglary prevention and investigation will continue to remain a key priority for the team

Issued: 1 Apr 2026

Status Update

The neighbourhood team plays a vital role in preventing burglary through proactive, targeted patrols in areas affected by recent offences. One key tactic is cocooning, where officers visit neighbours and nearby residents following a burglary to offer tailored crime‑prevention advice and reassurance.
In addition to patrol activity, the team regularly organises Have Your Say events. These sessions see PCSOs and often PCs setting up stands in busy community locations such as high streets and shopping areas. They provide crime‑prevention materials, engage with residents, answer questions, and listen to concerns about local issues. Upcoming events are advertised on the events tab of this page.

While burglary investigations are typically led by detectives, neighbourhood officers contribute significantly by attending reported burglaries, conducting initial enquiries, identifying potential suspects, and offering reassurance to victims and the wider community. Their high‑visibility presence is carefully planned, with patrols directed to areas most at risk and specific tasks allocated to support crime reduction.
Officers continue to take part in cross‑border operations, including Operation Pandilla, which has resulted in numerous arrests across the Chiltern and South Bucks area.

Recently the Neighbourhood Team made good arrests following a business burglary in progress in Chesham. With the aid of our detective colleagues, a suspect was charged and remanded into custody. We also saw an early guilty plea due to overwhelming evidence.

If you have any information please report on 101 or online at www. thamesvalley.police.uk.

Our recent Neighbourhood Policing Priorities Survey showed that speeding is the second‑highest concern for residents across Amersham, Chesham and the Missendens. In Chesham, this continues to be a key priority for the neighbourhood team, and we remain focused on addressing speeding through regular patrols, engagement and targeted enforcement.

Issued: 1 Apr 2026

Status Update

The neighbourhood team carries out regular speed checks and enforcement across the area, using roadside speed guns to deter speeding and take action where necessary. Drivers found exceeding the limit may receive tickets, and our visible presence alone often encourages motorists to slow down. Although not completed as much during the winter months, as the spring and summer approaches, you will see officers conducting enforcement.
Tackling speeding effectively requires a joined‑up approach. Changing driving habits and attitudes takes time, and we work closely with partners and the community to make speeding socially unacceptable. Volunteers are always welcome for Community Speed Watch in the Chesham area, and we encourage anyone interested to visit www.communityspeedwatch.org to see how they can get involved.

Some speeding concerns also link to anti‑social behaviour, such as loud exhausts or reckless driving late at night. These incidents can be very distressing for residents. Where officers have obtained clear footage and registration details, drivers have been issued with Section 59 warnings, which allow us to take stronger action if the behaviour continues.

Chesham officers continue to deal with a range of traffic‑related offences, including uninsured drivers, and appropriate enforcement action has been taken in every case. The team also regularly responds to reports of unsafe or inconsiderate driving across the area.

The team also deals with anti‑social driving. In recent months, several vehicles have been stopped due to the manner of driving, and some have been seized after drivers were found to have no licence. These actions help reduce dangerous behaviour on our roads and improve safety for everyone.

Concerns have also been raised about speeding on Berkhamsted Road leading onto Broad Street. Recent MVAS data shows that the road is used by almost 5,000 vehicles on an average day. Of those, six drivers were recorded travelling at an average of 33mph, which, while only a small number, still highlights why residents remain concerned and why we continue to monitor the area closely.

Although not directly linked to speeding, we hope residents noticed the DVLA team working alongside the Neighbourhood Team in Chesham during a recent day of action. Together, we focused on identifying and dealing with untaxed vehicles, helping to keep our roads safer and our streets clear of abandoned or non‑compliant cars.

If you have any information please report on 101 or online at www. thamesvalley.police.uk.

Our recent Neighbourhood Priorities Survey revealed that the majority of Chesham residents consider anti‑social behaviour to be one of the key issues they want their local neighbourhood team to address. In response, we continue to carry out targeted activity across the area to reduce and prevent anti‑social behaviour. This remains a standing priority for the team.

Issued: 1 Apr 2026

Status Update

The neighbourhood team spends a great deal of time supporting residents with a wide range of anti‑social behaviour concerns. In Chesham, this can include anything from noise complaints and neighbour disputes to reports of cannabis smells, littering, criminal damage, harassment, and hate‑related incidents. Whatever the issue, our officers work hard to respond and find a positive way forward.
When anti‑social behaviour amounts to a crime, neighbourhood officers are assigned to investigate. Many situations are resolved quickly, while others take longer and need ongoing attention, but we remain committed to tackling them.
We know that some of our car parks continue to attract groups who cause disturbances or leave litter behind. These areas have been long‑standing hotspots, but since the council installed a new CCTV camera, reports have reduced noticeably.

When individuals are identified causing problems, warning letters are issued where appropriate.

Chesham is one of the busier areas for anti‑social behaviour across the wider policing area, alongside High Wycombe and Aylesbury. Our officers carry out regular Safer Streets foot patrols in the town centre and surrounding neighbourhoods, using a live‑tracking system to help us focus our efforts where they’re needed most.

We’re also aware of concerns about cars racing late at night or in the early hours. If you witness this, please report it to us—especially if you can provide a registration number—so we can take action against those responsible.

Recently, a Full Closure Order was granted by High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court for a property on Wallington Road. This means only authorised agencies can enter the address. The order is designed to put a stop to the persistent anti‑social behaviour linked to that location and bring some much‑needed relief to the surrounding community.

If you have any information please report on 101 or online at www. thamesvalley.police.uk.

Hats of Chesham

other

Officers will be on patrol and will have a stall at the Hats of event in Chesham.

Hats Off Chesham! on Saturday 11 July 2026 celebrates our High Street with fun for all the family, returning for its fourth year.

This popular festival has free entertainment along the High Street – music, stalls and more – just don’t forget your hat!

It will extend all the way along the High Street from Market Square to The Broadway, and into some of the adjacent yards.

It is hat-themed to celebrate Chesham’s historical links to the hat-making industry and its famous ex-resident Roger Crabbe!
It is hoped everyone will get into the spirit by wearing a hat, the more unusual or comical the better. But the main thing is to take part! It’s a lovely friendly atmosphere every year.

Hats Off Chesham! aims to provide a day of free entertainment whilst showing off what Chesham High Street has to offer, both to locals and visitors from further afield.

Lots of stalls as well to buy goodies, food and drinks; as well as our local shops and cafes.
