Status Update

• Vehicle theft and associated anti-social behaviour in Hampton and Haddon

We have conducted patrols in areas identified as having high levels of vehicle-related anti-social behaviour and spoken to people believed to be involved.

This disruption has led to thefts more than halving compared to the previous quarter – down to three offences compared to seven.

• Speeding in Sugar Way

We have seen a significant reduction in calls for service since this was adopted as a quarterly priority by the team.

Speed gun training was undertaken by officers and Special Constables and high visibility engagement/disruption completed. A mobile speed camera was also deployed to Oundle Road.

Officers have been working with local schools regarding the THINK! road safety program, as well as continued partnership work with Speedwatch and Neighbourhood Watch.

During days of action, numerous vehicles were stopped and drivers given words of advice regarding speed.

Other offences identified included using a mobile phone whilst driving, failing to wear a seatbelt, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

Officers have also conducted additional engagement in the local area concerning the issue, including with garages and the driving test centre, as well as reviewing speed calming measures.

• Theft from shops in the Ortons

Officers have conducted high visibility patrols at shopping areas in the Ortons to reassure local people and engage with businesses.

We have created business drop ins for shops at Orton Centre, Napier Place and the Herlington Centre. One has been completed, with further surgeries booked.

When conducting additional work looking at crime reports, officers have identified suspects and four investigations have been re-opened due to further lines of enquiry being identified.

Four people have been issued with exclusion notices from Orton Centre following their behaviour.

Officers have also continued to engage with members of the public concerning the issue, listening to their views, as well as distributing leaflets and working with businesses concerning target hardening their premises.
