E-scooters/e-bikes.

Issued: 3 Feb 2026

Status Update

Several days of action have been carried out in Mote Park to tackle issues involving off‑road bikes, e‑scooters, e‑bikes and general antisocial behaviour. During this work, three illegal e‑bikes and three e‑scooters were seized.

Privately owned e‑scooters remain illegal to use in public places. Members of the Child‑Centred Policing Team have been sharing this message in schools across Maidstone to raise awareness among young people.

We will continue to educate the public about the law around e‑scooters and take enforcement action where they are used illegally. Seized e‑scooters are not returned and may be destroyed.

Actioned: 30 Mar 2026

Catapults.

Issued: 3 Feb 2026

Status Update

We are aware of an increase in reports involving groups of young people using catapults in the area. Each report has been reviewed and followed up to look for opportunities to identify those involved.

High‑visibility patrols have been increased around local shops and Mote Park. A mobile CCTV camera has also been used to help identify anyone carrying catapults.

Catapults have been identified as a wider national issue, as they can be used to cause damage to property or harm wildlife. While we await clearer national legislation around carrying catapults in public places, officers will continue to patrol areas of concern, raise awareness through local schools, and use educational workbooks with young people found in possession of catapults where appropriate.
