Local Priorities

Theft and shoplifting continue to be reported across Avonmouth and Shirehampton, particularly within retail areas and industrial estates. Offences range from opportunistic shoplifting to the theft of high-value industrial tools, vehicles and goods, often linked to repeat offenders targeting local businesses. This type of crime has a significant impact on livelihoods and can contribute to wider issues such as anti-social behaviour and disorder.

Issued: 14 May 2026

Status Update

Your neighbourhood policing team will be taking a proactive approach by carrying out targeted patrols in known hotspot locations, including industrial areas vulnerable to tool theft. We have and will  work closely with local businesses to identify offenders, share crime prevention advice using a specialised team and support reporting.

Enforcement action will be taken where appropriate, including arresting repeat offenders and progressing cases through the courts. Officers will also continue to gather intelligence to build stronger cases against those involved in persistent offending. We encourage businesses and members of the public to report incidents and share information, as this helps us take effective, targeted action.

Anti-social behaviour involving young people continues to be reported in parts of Avonmouth and Shirehampton, particularly in public spaces such as parks, shopping areas and transport hubs. This can include nuisance behaviour, noise, intimidation and damage, and has a significant impact on the day-to-day lives of local residents and businesses.

Issued: 28 Feb 2026

Status Update

Your neighbourhood policing team will be taking action through increased high-visibility patrols in identified hotspot areas, particularly during peak times. We will engage with young people to prevent issues from escalating, while using enforcement powers where appropriate to deal with persistent offenders.
We are also working closely with partner agencies, schools and youth services to address the root causes of this behaviour and provide longer-term solutions. We encourage the community to continue reporting incidents, as this helps us identify hotspots and take targeted action.

Drug activity remains a concern in parts of Avonmouth and Shirehampton, with reports of street dealing and the suspected use of residential addresses for the storage, preparation and cultivation of controlled drugs. This type of activity can have a wider impact on the community, contributing to anti-social behaviour, violence and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals.

Your neighbourhood policing team is taking a proactive approach to tackle this issue. We will be increasing targeted patrols in identified hotspot areas, using stop and search powers where appropriate, and developing intelligence to disrupt those involved. We are also working with partner agencies to identify and close down addresses linked to drug activity, and to safeguard anyone who may be at risk of exploitation. We encourage members of the public to continue reporting any concerns, as community information plays a key role in helping us take action.
