Local Priorities

We have seen an increase in the number of complaints around people using residential streets to park their vehicles while they go on holiday.

Where vehicles are parked illegally, dangerously or causing an obstruction, we will issue a ticket and authorise removal of the vehicle if appropriate for the offence; this will result in a fine and a release fee for the vehicle as well as a daily charge for the storage of the vehicle.

 UPDATES

In conjunction with our police colleagues at the Airport, we continue to patrol areas around the Airport perimeter, as well as residential streets near to the Airport. Tickets have been issued and vehicles have been removed when necessary.

**************************************************************************************

We are working closely with the airport police and the highways agency, to tackle illegal and inconsiderate parking in the Downend Road and other areas surrounding the airport.

**************************************************************************************

We are aware of issues relating to airport parking, and we are continuing to work closely with the airport and several other agencies to combat this issue and target unscrupulous parking companies.

**************************************************************************************

A multi agency meeting was recently held between the airport, local council and the police to look at way we can combat the issue of parking around the airport

**************************************************************************************

A collaborative effort involving the airport, neighbourhood policing team, planning department, and immigration personnel was recently conducted with notable success. The team visited rogue car parking businesses and provided guidance on compliant practices. As a result, there has been a reduction in vehicles left on the roadside. Additionally, several taxis were removed from the roads for various reasons. We will continue to monitor these activities and remain committed to further reducing roadside parking.

The local neighbourhood team have received reports from residents of Backwell complaining about inconsiderate parking during peak school hours in and around Backwell.

This includes stopping on zigzags, parking on double yellow lines and causing obstructions on the road.

A letter has been sent to the local schools to be forwarded to parents to remind them of their responsibility to drive and park safely.

As a neighbourhood policing team, we are continuously seeking new avenues to engage with the community and facilitate open communication. Currently, we host a monthly 'Talk to Us' event at the Parish Council Offices; however, we are eager to expand our outreach to involve more residents and gather their feedback.

Should you have any suggestions on how we might increase our engagement opportunities, or if you are aware of a club or group that could benefit from police contact, please do not hesitate to contact us by email through the force website, selecting the ‘My Area’ option.

We have seen an increase in the number of burglaries across the North Somerset region, where the primary target is to obtain keys for high end vehicles.

If you have a vehicle that cannot be stored in a garage or behind a barrier and its parked on your driveway or in the street then the following advice should be followed to reduce the risk of your vehicle being stolen.

  • Don't keep any valuables on view in the vehicle overnight. If you do need to keep items in the vehicle, put them in the boot.
  • Keep your car keys upstairs, ideally in the room you are sleeping in. Criminals don't want to venture upstairs as this increases the risk of a confrontation with the occupants.
  • If you are using a keyless remote, keep in in a 'faraday pouch' so it cannot be copied.
  • If you see anyone hanging around your or your neighbours property, especially if they are taking an interest in vehicles, ring the police on 101 straight away to report it.
  • If you don't have external lighting or cameras, consider having them installed, making sure you comply with regulations on their use.

We've had a number of reports and intelligence around the selling of vapes to underage Children which is illegal.

If you are aware of any person or business doing this, you can report it to us by ringing 101, report online or use the 'Contact Us' form at the bottom of this page.
