Road safety issues.

Issued: 3 Feb 2026

Status Update

Residents have highlighted road safety as a key concern, particularly relating to the behaviour of certain drivers in the area. In the past, Cliffsend experienced issues such as reckless driving and drifting, which were tackled through targeted police activity that significantly reduced this criminality.

Officers will continue to patrol and monitor the ward, carrying out road‑traffic operations, speed checks and vehicle stops on drivers or vehicles identified as posing a risk. These actions aim to maintain safe roads and prevent dangerous driving from returning.

PC Crush has issued a Section 59 warning to one driver for antisocial driving. A Section 59 warning is a formal notice given to someone driving in a careless or antisocial manner, and it allows police to seize the vehicle if the behaviour happens again. Recently, another man was also arrested on suspicion of drink‑driving and has been remanded to court.

E-scooters.

Issued: 3 Feb 2026

Status Update

The use of privately owned e‑scooters and certain types of e‑bikes on public roads remains illegal. These vehicles continue to be seized across Thanet, and riders may face prosecution for a range of driving offences.

Because they are frequently linked to antisocial behaviour, this has become a priority for the Cliffsend and Pegwell ward. PC Crush will continue to take a firm enforcement approach to deter illegal use and protect the safety and wellbeing of the community.

Alongside this, the Child‑Centred Policing Team is visiting schools around Thanet to talk to young people about the law on e‑scooters and the consequences of using them illegally. These sessions aim to prevent offences by raising awareness early.
